Empowering Affordable Mobility
WheelCare.Health is working to be a local, nonprofit provider of affordable, responsive, onsite service of selected mobility devices, serving our neighbors in Virginia’s Fairfax and Loudon Counties.

Get Rolling
Coming online this summer, WheelCare.Health will be an innovative, local source for affordable maintenance and repairs of mobility scooters.
Coming in the Summer 2025
WheelCare.Health will debut in the coming months with two pilot repair and service programs.
Scooters & Manual Wheelchairs
Initial services will support neighbors who own non-powered wheelchairs and common power scooters.
Maintenance & Repairs
Support will include both repairs and routine maintenance of selected personal mobility equipment.
Low-cost Services
As a community 501c3 nonprofit, we aim to keep costs low to provide affordable or even no-cost services.
Mobility Device Recycling
WheelCare.Health will accept donations of used mobility devices for refurbishing or recycling of parts.
Contributions
Watch for confirmation of our tax-exempt status to make deductible contributions to support our work.
Understanding Community Needs
As a startup nonprofit service organization, Wheelcare.Health has a lot to learn about mobility needs of individuals in the communities we will serve. You can support our mission by following our efforts and engaging in our development and program pilot activities.
What’s coming for WheelCare.Health?
- Finalize planning for pilot unpowered wheelchair and power scooter service programs
- Establish governance structures
- Secure federal tax-exempt status
- Develop the Pay-as-You-Can fee model
- Capitalize the two onsite maintenance and repair pilots
- Analyze data from the pilots to inform next-step planning and implementation
- Explore the potential to become an authorized Medicare provider

Will Medicare pay for scooter repairs?
- Becoming an approved Medicare fee-for-service provider is a complex process.
- Relatively few individually owned mobility scooters qualify for Medicare coverage.
- Given those factors, scooter repair companies that will bill Medicare are rare; we want to change that for local individuals who qualify.
“Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers wheelchairs and power-operated vehicles (scooters) as durable medical equipment (DME) that your doctor prescribes for use in your home.
You must have a face-to-face examination and a written prescription from treating provider before Medicare covers a power wheelchair or scooter. Part B covers power wheelchairs and scooters only when they’re medically necessary.”
